Men's Hockey Playoffs!

While you recover from the ridiculous (good or bad?) Chinese New Year dinner at Ross tonight, think about this...

Men's Hockey Playoff Tickets go on sale tomorrow for a game this Saturday (Winter Carnival Weekend) at 4PM in Kenyon. And this time, you don't have to trek over to Kenyon to purchase your tickets ($2 for students), you can do so from the comfort of your stupid rocking chair in your dorm room (on sale starting: Tuesday (tomorrow, or today because you stay up that late) 1AM

Norwich v. Midd Televised

As if you weren't preoccupied with the Superbowl this Sunday, the Norwich vs. Middlebury hockey game will be broadcast on ESPNU, the ESPN College broadcasts. Online messageboards are already trashing the Panthers for not being worthy of the televised game but we're hoping we step up to our rivals over at Norwich.

Battell Lumberjacks Take World Cup

The second annual Middlebury College Qudditch World Cup took place this afternoon. The Battell Lumberjacks, dressed in mostly plaid, took the championship in a shutout against the reigning champion Falcons, dressed in matching black and white.

With much fanfare and adoration, Rainey the snitch wowed the audience the fantastic feats of escape throughout the game. Evasion tactics included cartwheels, running through the audience, slides, and spins. The real crowd pleaser was the physicalness of the rest of the game. Major tackles, slides, and balls to the face had the audience oo-ing and aah-ing repeatedly. With all the mud, the game looked more like a rugby match than anything else.

The first person to catch the snitch was none other than Christopher Lam ('10) who was promptly interviewed after by Wall Street Journal reporter John Hechinger.

Middlebury College Quidditch World Cup

There perhaps is no greater event of the year than this second annual Middlebury College Qudditch World Cup. This not only brings Midd to the forefront of the Harry Potter fan-dom, but it is just the greatest thing to watch and play... Rainey, the snitch, practices for hours for this very event and it will be a sight to behold. New hoops, new banners, and megaphones will make this round all the better. This is such an important event that a Wall Street Journal reporter will make his was to the MIDDle of nowhere to document it!

Students are encouraged to form teams of seven with capes and uniforms. Brooms will be provided (they better have a lot of brooms...).

Date: Sunday, December 3rd, 2006
Time: 12PM Noon
Venue: Battell Beach

An Early Weekend Events Update

Lots of events this weekend as most orgs try to squeeze things in before Thanksgiving Break. This is a notice: get your tickets now for these events. If not, they are going to sell out.

Urinetown, the musical by MCMP
This musical is a fun one because it's all about a bodily excrement! Surprisingly catchy songs. Space is severly limited as this one is in the Hepburn Zoo. There is a waiting list and chances are you can get in if you show up at the door but, really, do you want to crowd onto the floor of the Zoo for a 2+ hour show?

Date: Thursday thru Saturday, November 16-18, 2006
Time: 8PM with a 11PM show on Friday night
Venue: The Hepburn Zoo

Cinders
This Theater Dept. production has a lot of folks involved and is directed by none other than our favorite theater professor and Sex and the City actor Alex Draper. Lots of room left for this one but find out which night you're going on.

Date: Thursday thru Saturday, November 16-18, 2006
Time: 8PM
Venue: Wright Theater

ISO Show
This annual show is a must-see, complete with a fashion show and crazy dance performances. It's known for being one of the best events of the year. And ISO clearly knows it and has priced tickets at $5. If you don't buy your tickets now, you'll be in for a jolt when you show up at the door where you'll pay a whopping $8, a piece.

Date: Friday, November 17th, 2006
Time: 8PM show with a 5:30PM "showcase concert" (read: we're paying the same so we're hoping the 5:30 isn't just an extra rehearsal for the 8PM)
Venue: McCullough Social Space

Pei Yao Wang and Friends
We don't want to slight this Taiwanese prodigy who started playing piano at the age of five but she too deserves a little love on a Friday night, if you're not in the mood for ISO. She is bringing a few friends and rockin' Mozart to Shostakovich (who btw, wrote a lot of his music from prison)

Date: Friday, November 17th, 2006
Time: 8PM
Venue: CFA Concert Hall

We at MiddBlog don't want to exclude the sports folks! Don't forget to schedule in time for the 1st Hockey Game of the year (yes, get ready for an amazing experience...) on Friday vs. Tufts (7-9PM) and another the following day vs. Connecticut College (4-6PM)

Rugby Redux: Quarterfinal Action

The Middlebury College Rugby Club (i.e. men's rugby) will kick of the Northeast Rugby Union (regionals) territorial championships this fine Saturday afternoon at 1PM on the South Field. After their major win last week, they are seeded number one and are playing eighth seeded University of Vermont. Conditions aren't as muddy as last week which means slightly less fun for the spectators. It should be a good game nonetheless. If our Panthers win, they go to Batavia, New York for the finals. Go check out this game!

Men's Rugby

If you haven't bought your Men's Rugby Raffle Tickets yet, you really should get in on that action. $2 buys you a chance to win some sweet prizes from $100 cash to a fishing trip to a trip to California.

Oh, and they won the New England Championship Final against the reigning Division II national champs today. Yea, take that and Midd doesn't even count it as an official sport!

Show 'em some love by buying a raffle ticket from some big dude in a blue Rugby jacket. Get 'em tomorrow before the drawing happens!
