"Expert" Uses Middlebury to Pad His Resume

Alexis Debat. Heard of him? Yeah, me neither.

Rue89 writes, "On September 5, Rue89 revealed that Debat had provided Politique Internationale with a fake interview, carrying his byline, with Senator Barack Obama, running for the Democratic party nomination for the 2008 presidential election. Our research showed that Debat was also inflating his resume, flattering himself with a PhD he never obtained as well as cooked-up positions."

One of those cooked-up positions? Visiting Professor of Political Science at Middlebury College!

Laura Rozen wrote on the Mother Jones' website last week, "Riché also reported that Debat claimed to have a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne that he did not in fact complete, and that he had exaggerated his CV in other respects . . . claiming to be a visiting professor at Middlebury College, when in fact he had been a visiting instructor for a short winter term at Middlebury."

If you look at the July 30, 2003 issue of In the National Interest, his biography says, "Dr. Alexis Debat, former advisor to the French minister of Defense on Transatlantic Affairs, is a visiting professor at Middlebury College . . ." Hmm . . .

No matter what his terms of employment with Middlebury College may have been, it remains unclear what credentials he claimed in order to teach here.

Middlebury got punk'd.
