Princeton Review Rankings Out

While Middlebury may have avoided a fall in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, Middlebury "dropped" in the Princeton Review (PR) rankings for 2008. PR doesn't rank schools on an overall basis and instead ranks in a variety of categories. Take a look at what we got awarded this year:

#6 Best Classroom Experience (#7 last year as "Best Overall Academic Experience")
#3 Professors Get High Marks (#1 last year)
#3 School Runs Like Butter (#7 last year)
#16 The Toughest to Get Into (#14 last year)
#10 Their Students Never Stop Studying (not listed last year)
#13 Best Campus Food (#12 last year)
#13 Best Quality of Life (#8 last year)

Agree/disagree? Hit the comments!

EDIT: Per commenter request, I added last year's rankings for comparison. We didn't actually "drop" across the board but nothing less than a number one ranking for professors is kind of a letdown not to mention that five place drop on "quality of life." "Students Never Stop Studying" is not a good category to pick up, if you ask me.

the blog said Middlebury dropped in the Princeton Review rankings, but you don't list last year's rankings and so it is hard to see how much and in which categories things changed. Can you supply that information?

well, "students never stop studying" means we're not a slacker college, i suppose. but we already knew that.

link to the report, maybe?

Students never stop studying = drop in quality of life (and perhaps lower ranking of professors, reviewed by discontented, overworked students?).

I don't have enough time to do things I want outside of the classroom and give proper attention to all my classes... At least one always becomes a casualty.

Is Middblog's search for new bloggers just one more example of the tilting balance? "Balance" was what Middlebury advertised on its pamphlet luring me to this agrarian sanctuary. Alas, my mind, body, spirit have not been balanced since I've been here.

The link to the Princeton Review is under a pay-wall so, unfortunately, you can't read up on other colleges. However, let me know if you have any specific rivals (the purple people eaters from up north) that you want info on...

I read the Princeton Review on Middlebury yesterday. It said that the average GPA here is 4.0. Huh? I'm sure there are some 4.0-ers at Midd, but certainly not enough to make it the average.

P.S. To second anonymous poster: here, here. I totally agree with you on that one.

I think that "4.0" is the average HIGH SCHOOL gpa of MiddKids...or at least that would be my guess. That would be more interesting to a recent HS grad who is trying to figure out where they'd fit in...

we were beat on the professors category by:
1) Wellesley
2) Harvey Mudd

The "purple rivals" didn't rank.

on the books...
