500+ and McKenna Responds

Middlebury College VP of Communications Mike McKenna sent out a lengthy response letter to students who wrote into him expressing disappointment in the new Midd Logo. He was rather witty and at times funny which led to an almost universal response from students calling Mike a "good guy." But his response has not stemmed the tide of students speaking out against the new logo. The "Just Say No to the Middlebury Logo" Facebook group has ballooned to 540+ students and alumni. More anti-new-logo t-shirt designs are up as well.

I think Mr. McKenna has made very smart moves in the last couple days. When students complained that he did not send a informative email to the entire student body, he went ahead and did just that. But he has also handled the complaints really well. McKenna has gained respect among students by being very "real." He smartly has kept on top of the complaints but also has decided to keep a safe distance hoping things will die out by the time school starts in September. He ended his latest response with: "I think this note will be it for a while. Need to move on to some other projects. But thanks again for caring enough to write. Hope to see you around campus and if you are ever by the Old Courthouse, please stop it." A little slip there with "please stop it," but I'll cut Mike some slack...
