Larson-y

As if you couldn't possibly be any busier Friday night, I know you'll be checking our Larson playing at Tavern (i.e. Brackett House for all you tourguides) this Friday, Jan 12, from 10PM to 3AM. And if you miss it, they are up again the week after on Friday, Jan 19 in Pearsons Lounge.

Larson rocks my socks and it's named after none other than sir Jon Larson ('06) who now works at the Federal Reserve in Boston.

TGIF Chamber Singers

For those of us who never enter the library, it's hard to tell what goes on there... but today:

MUSIC 209 Composition Performance

Bach, Mozart, Handel, Vivaldi, Mahler, Shostakovich, Britten. You could meet the next great composer of our generation as these 209 students perform their latest compositions for voice, string, or pretty much anything. Be prepared for some crushing chords and mind-blowing melodies.

Opera/Soul

Every since the Hip-opera and R.Kelly, opera is just about the hottest thing ever. Ezra Axelrod is trying his hand at it in his latest composition for Ms. Carol Christensen, one of the two leading voice teachers on campus. Watch Carol rock it with virtuosity plus throw in some manly men to stomp and sing with arms wide open. Let's just hope it isn't as long as a Wagner piece.

WRMC Scores A. Bird for Concert

Okay, so this news is slightly dated (sorry):

WRMC 91.1FM has finally nailed down its artists for it's huge Sepomana concert on December 1st. Andrew Bird will be headlining. Anyone who's anyone knows about Andrew Bird and he was indeed an expensive one to bring (so much so that a special donation was made). Go to his website to hear a few tracks. He'll be perfoming with Mobius Band and Baby Dayliner. Not super mainstream but that is the point of WRMC's Sepomana.

WRMC kindly moved the concert up to the fall this year to generate greater interest in WRMC. Last year, it took place in the spring. Alas, the annual question is how to pronounce the title of the concert: Sepomana (which often is seen to be spelled Sepomania).

Tickets will be $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

Dawn's Basement Pearson's Party

A Dawn's Basement bonanza is sweeping the school! A strong performance at Global Rhythms and the first TGIF concert in the library means these guys are going big time. Relying on strong musicianship and a particular twang, these folks rock like few others can. If you haven't been enlightened yet, check 'em out this weekend. The Supermarket, an up-and-coming band led by Mike West, will be opening.

MCAB Coffeehouse: J and Pete

This coffeehouse with J and Pete might actually draw quite a crowd. Related to current MiddKids, this acoustic duo has quite a sound. Their latest album, dressed for conversation, has amazing cover photo too. Come check 'em out because lord knows there's nothing else to do today but do homework.

The Doughboys Play Hungry Mind

I'm not sure I know of many things better than professors who can jam as amazingly as they teach. Perhaps this is why Middlebury gets high marks for its professors. The Doughboys just rock it like none other and they are playing Carol's Hungry Mind Cafe tomorrow (Saturday, 11/4) at 7:30PM. Cover charge is a bit steep at $7 (we're spoiled on campus) but come on, it's the Doughboys! Plus, I love that guy who plays the accordian or maybe just the accordian.
