Kiss Your Winter Carnival Break Goodbye
Seniors can breath a big sigh of relief. The traditional Friday day-off for Winter Carnival is still intact for 2008.
In May of this year, the Board of Trustees approved the elimination of this coveted day off from classes for the 2008-2009 Academic Year. Instead, students will be given a day off in April to attend . . . lectures. Student lectures, that is, but lectures nonetheless.
The issue was discussed at the last Community Council meeting. The decision (it's not really a proposal, now is it?) was met with, how you say, outrage.
MiddBlog wants to know: What do you think of this decision by the Board of Trustees? Would you rather have a day off for Winter Carnival or a day off to attend student presentations/lectures?

I really never felt they did as much with winter carnival as they could've, and a day off in April (closer to exams) might be nice. So I'm not too upset...
It's outrageous that they have eliminated the Friday of Winter Carnival. Another enjoyable Middlebury tradition flushed down the toilet. I was attracted to Middlebury because I felt there was a strong sense of balance at the school. Some of you may remember the promotional material that said "Middlebury: Its all in the balance". Well I think the decision is horribly unbalanced. Take one of our few fun community activities, spit on it, and then add an academic holiday. I support the research symposium completely and I enjoyed it immensely last year, however it should be an added day off not a substitute for one of Middleburys great traditions.
