Activities Fair This Evening!

The Center for Campus Activities and Leadership will host the Campus Activities Fair this evening, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the lawn outside of McCullough (rain location: McCullough Social Space).

For all of you first-year, transfer, and exchange students who have never experienced anything quite like the Middlebury College Activities Fair, MiddBlog is here to give you the low-down.

1. The Activities Fair is loud. You have WRMC pumping their indie beats and numerous groups showing video demonstrations of their really cool martial art that you have never in your life heard of. Because of this, all of the other student reps from various groups have to yell. Not only will you strain to hear, but you, too, will yell.

2. There are a lot of student groups represented at the Activities Fair. In your eagerness to be a well-rounded, super-involved, energetic, OMG PONIES!!1! sort of student, you will add your e-mail address to about 2,000 lists, but you will ultimately only attend the meetings of 3 groups. If you're lucky.

3. Don't be afraid to try new things. Don't sign up for the American Sign Language Club, the Yearbook, and the Newspaper because that's what you did in high school and it's comfortable. By all means, if you're really passionate about something, do it. But it's really fun and amazing to step outside of our comfort zones and take on new challenges. That martial art you have never in your life heard of? Doooo it.

4. Don't add your name to an e-mail list out of a feeling of obligation because someone gave you a piece of candy. Eat the candy, walk away. Besides, didn't your mother ever tell you not to take candy from strangers?

5. MiddBlog will not be at the Activities Fair, but if you are interested in becoming a contributor to this blog, please e-mail MiddBlog [at] gmail [dot] com.
