The Town-Gown

Those of you not at Middlebury for the summer will be in for a strange sight upon your return in the fall: the town of Middlebury is gone to hell in a handbasket. Okay, an exaggeration. Some may not care but some small-town charm Middlebury shops have gone out of business. Along with Eat-Good-Food last spring, The Alley Bookshop is going out of business in a week and the Middlebury make-your-own jewelry storefront is already empty. With renovation at Vermont Book Shop, Middlebury looks empty during the busy summer season.

What is going strong this summer: Middlebury Market and Cafe as well as the Saturday morning Farmer's Market.

I'm not so sure the Alley Bookshop went out of business. The owners are just moving to Maine. I tried to warn them about that, but they didn't listen.

Oh, and if by the "make-your-own-jewelry" store you mean Vermont Beads and Fibers, that's still around; however, Middlebury Jewelry and Gift Works went out of business. Might be best to clarify; some students might freak if they think VT Beads & Fibers is gone.
