SGA Senate Race

Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

People are starting to care about the SGA Senate. See those signs outside the dining halls? An opinion piece in The Campus appeared today, the Proctor banner highlights a candidate's name, and Facebook announcements are out. That means there is a competition going on. The biggest of all competitions is for Wonnacott Senator where five candidates are facing off. Even Junior Half-Year Senator with only two candidates running has meant fierce competition.

The question is why, all of a sudden, are people so inclined to be a Senator for the SGA? Isn't this the post that traditionally get swept under the carpet like everything else minus SGA President? What is inspiring people to care so much? Certainly the campaign promises are no different than normal -- bring back the universal MiddCard, more social life, speaking to the administration.

I think the excitement is great but will it carry over into the rest of the Senate? Moreover, will it carry over to student involvement as a whole?
